To ensure a secure and equitable testing environment on ChromeOS devices, Chromebooks can be operated in Kiosk Mode to administer assessments. This feature locks the Chromebook to a single URL, preventing students from accessing other tabs, applications, or system settings during an assessment.
For any assignment with the "Secure Browser is required" feature enabled, a student's Chromebook be running in Kiosk Mode in order for the student to login to the assessment.
Setup & Configuration
For enhanced test security, Kiosk Mode must be installed on all devices prior to testing day by your district IT department.
Step 1: Review Google Support Documentation
Kiosk Mode is managed via the Google Admin Console. For a detailed walkthrough, review the following Google support article for more information about setting up Chromebooks to run a URL in Kiosk Mode.
Note: Only step 1 and step 2 of the Google documentation are required for Pathways Assessment functionality.
Step 2: Configure the Kiosk URL
Your district IT administrator will copy and paste the corresponding URL into the Google Admin Console based on the subject(s) being assessed.
Assessment Subject | Kiosk URL |
| ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies | https://ola.k12pathways.cloud/ |
| Auto-Scored Writing | https://apps.k12els.com/ezAssessV3/student/wa_test_login.php |
Note: The Secure Browser feature cannot currently be enabled for writing benchmarks; however, Kiosk Mode can still be utilized.
Next Steps
We recommend running a practice test with one or two devices 24-48 hours in advance of major testing windows. This ensures Kiosk Mode is set up correctly to prevent issues on test day.
