Pathways Assessment: Installing Safe Exam Browser (Windows, macOS or iOS)

Modified on Mon, 6 Apr at 1:54 PM

To ensure a secure and equitable testing environment, Pathways Assessment utilizes the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) application. When enabled, this feature turns a student's device into a secure workstation by preventing access to outside websites, system functions, and unauthorized applications during the assessment.

On devices running Windows, macOS, or iOS, assignments with the "Secure Browser is required" feature turned on must be opened in Safe Exam Browser.

Setup & Installation

For enhanced test security, Safe Exam Browser must be installed on all devices prior to testing day.

Step 1: Download

Visit the Safe Exam Browser Download page and select the version compatible with your operating system.

Step 2: Install

Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen prompts. Once installation is complete, no further manual configuration is necessary.

Step 3: Launching an Assessment

Once Secure Exam Browser is installed, any assignment with the feature "Secure Browser is required" toggle turned on will automatically trigger the software to launch when a student begins the test.

Next Steps

We recommend running a practice test with one or two devices 24-48 hours in advance of major testing windows. This ensures your district's firewall allows Safe Exam Browser to communicate securely with the Pathways Assessment servers.
