Stepping Stones for ELA

Modified on Tue, 5 Nov, 2024 at 12:01 PM

Stepping Stones are extended teaching activities and resources based on passages that were on the previous year's ELA Comprehensive Benchmark Assessments. They include four types of activities meant to help with scaffolding grade-level content for students who are not currently performing at grade level. The four types of Stepping Stone Activities are Vocabulary Boosters, Comprehension Boosters, MAAP Checks, and Writing Prompt Extensions. These different levels of assessment allow students that are falling behind to work on vocabulary and comprehension checks while more advanced students work on writing prompts. Each activity separates the benchmark into bite-sized pieces to better grasp the concepts being tested. To access Stepping Stones:

1. Login to your Pathways account through Clever, ClassLink, or at k12els.com

2. Navigate to Pathways to Proficiency -> Pathways, then choose Bundles/Checks/SteppingStones for your state from the drop down menu.

3. At the top of the screen, select the grade level for which you wish to view Stepping Stones.

4. Next, select Lang-Reading (Combined) as the subject.

5. Navigate to 'Stepping Stones' to find a list of the available Stepping Stones for the selected grade level.

4. Scroll down to find all stepping stones, organized by passage. To assign a Stepping Stone assessment, choose the blue ‘Assign’ button or choose ‘Actions’ to view the worksheet.

5. When you choose 'Assign,' you will proceed as if you are assigning and administering any other assessment. To read more information about these methods, see Opening an Assignment and Logging Students in for an Assessment with a Direct Link
